Yearly Reports_San Lorenzo Crane PatonSteve 2020 Yearly climate summaries for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute's Physical Monitoring Program Sherman/San Lorenzo (FTS) Canopy Access Crane Station. Established in 1997, the San Lorenzo canopy crane (9.281031°, -79.974518°) is located approximately 11 km South West from the city of Colon, in the middle the Parque Natural San Lorenzo (formerly known as Fort Sherman) and is surrounded by 300-year old, low-land tropical rainforest.<br><br>The crane stands in a 6-hectare plot where all 22,400 trees with a bole size of 1 cm in dbh or greater have been identified, measured and mapped. Structurally, the forest can be characterized as including 3,338 stems per hectare (greater than 1 cm dbh) and a total basal area of almost 32 m2 per hectare with the tallest trees being 45 m tall.
