This chapter gives a historical perspective on one century of epiphyte research on Barro Colorado Island (BCI). As a starting point and reference for future work, I also provide (1) an updated species list of structurally dependent plants, which includes epiphytes, hemiepiphytes, and nomadic vines; (2) a color plate with photographs of epiphyte species that were reported after the publication of Thomas Croat’s Flora of Barro Colorado Island; and (3) a complete bibliography of work with BCI epiphytes from 1923 to 2022.
