This dataset accompanies the Quafisi 2010 thesis, titled ‘Assessment of Modern Sediment Storage in the Floodplain of the Lower Tar River, North Carolina’. Sediment cores were taken 50 m apart on transects perpendicular to the main channel of the Tar River, North Carolina. Cores were taken both before and after a flood event occurred on December, 12, 2009, to investigate flood deposition. Downcore samples were analyzed for Pb210 and Cs137 activities, and further used to calcuate sediment accumulation rates for sites across the floodplain.
