This dataset contains the findings of a carbon stock inventory conducted by CATIE (Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza) in 2012. The aim of this project was to measure carbon stocks at the ecosystem level (up to 3m deep) in the mangroves and lands which had been converted from mangrove for agricultural use (shrimp farms and salt ponds) located around the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica. Fieldwork was carried out across 11 different sites, and with 6 plots, where vegetation was surveyed and soils were sampled to provide estimates of total ecosystem carbon stock.
