Patrick MegonigalThis dataset accompanies the published paper Mozdzer et al. 2023 in Estuaries and Coasts. The data are from two brackish, microtidal wetland sites on the Rhode River subestuary of the Chesapeake Bay at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. These data were generated to understand if deep rooting and uptake of nitrogen from deep soil pools could provide a mechanism to supply the high nitrogen demand of the common reed, Phragmites australis subs. australis when compared to native plant communities dominated by Spartina patens and Schoenoplectus americanus. That data set includes biomass, standing stock nitrogen, porewater NH4, 15N uptake rates, and root biomass distributions. Metadata are provided in the Read Me file.
