Jim Zimbelman

I was a staff scientist in the Center for Earth and Planetary Studies at the National Air and Space Museum for more than 32 years. I retired on Sept 30, 2020, after which I was granted emeritus status by the Smithsonian Institution. Schooling: B.A. in Physics and Mathematics (double major), Northwest Nazarene University, Nampa, ID, 1976; M.S. in Geophysics and Space Physics, U.C.L.A., Los Angeles, CA, 1978; PhD in Geology, Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ, 1984. My research interests are in aeolian processes (wind-surface interactions) on Earth and Mars, volcanism throughout the solar system, and field investigations as analogs for planetary features.
